Let’s talk genre categories.

We know. There are LOTS of musical genres, but if we were to list them all, we’d all be scrolling for days. So we’ve tried to categorise them in a way that gives a few solid hints, with room to add your own tags on your event listings.

According to Wikipedia there are more than 1300 musical genres. On the one hand - how COMPLETELY AWESOME is that?! But on the other, it’s really not helpful when trying to categorise down to four main choices. We totally understand that a) no one wants to be pigeonholed, and b) grouping genres down to a succinct list is just asking for trouble. But we did it to help the general public get an immediate sense of what a musical event might be all about. Below are the genres we have considered to be part of these main categories. You’re welcome to use the ‘Tags & keywords’ field on the Add Event form to help dig a little deeper into your niche. And your feedback is always welcome at hello@mostlymusic.nz.
